Essentra is a nutrition app for athletes. This policy describes what it stores, where, and why. It is written to be checkable against the app itself rather than to be broad — if something below is not accurate, the policy is the thing that is wrong.
The short version
- You can search foods and see calculated targets without an account.
- Logging food to a diary requires an account, because the diary is stored on a server so it survives a new phone.
- Apple Health / Health Connect readings are used on your device to compute your daily calorie target. We do not upload your Health records.
- We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it for advertising of any kind.
- We never use your health or fitness data for anything except the features you can see in the app.
What we collect
Account information
Your email address and a Supabase-issued user identifier, when you create an account. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and account identifier from Google; we do not receive your Google password.
Food and nutrition data
Food diary entries (the food, the amount, the meal, the date, and optionally the time you ate), saved meal templates, and custom foods you create. These are stored on your device and on our servers so they are available on your other devices and after a reinstall.
Profile and targets
Body inputs you enter (age, biological sex, height, weight), your chosen training persona, goal, training schedule and meal times, your calculated calorie and macronutrient targets, and the resting- and active-energy figures those targets were built from. Stored on your device and synced to our servers.
Health and fitness data (Apple Health / Health Connect)
With your explicit permission, Essentra reads:
- completed workouts,
- active energy burned,
- resting (basal) energy burned.
These readings are used on your device to estimate your daily energy needs and to show your training alongside your nutrition. **The underlying Health records are not uploaded.** Figures calculated from them — your daily target and the resting and active baselines behind it — are stored with your profile so a second device shows the same plan.
You can decline this permission, turn it off inside Essentra, or revoke it in the Health app at any time. Essentra works without it, using estimates from your own answers instead.
Health data is used only to provide the features described here. It is never used for advertising, never shared with advertisers or data brokers, and never sold.
Analytics
We record which screens and steps are used, and which app actions occur — for example that a food was logged, or that an onboarding step was completed. These events describe what part of the app was used, not what was eaten and not any health measurement. Processed by PostHog.
Diagnostics
Crash reports and error diagnostics, processed by Sentry, so we can fix failures.
What we do not collect
We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, microphone audio, or advertising identifiers. Essentra performs no tracking as Apple defines it: we do not link your data to data from other companies for advertising or measurement, and we do not use third-party advertising SDKs.

Food searches reach USDA and Open Food Facts as anonymous queries. Those services see the search term or barcode, not who asked.
Data may be processed in the United States and elsewhere. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses for international transfers.
How long we keep it
Your account data is kept while your account exists. Delete your account — Settings → Delete account — and the account and everything logged under it (diary, saved meals, profile) is permanently removed. This cannot be undone.
Analytics and crash records are retained by our processors on their standard schedules and are not used to reconstruct an individual's diary.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict, or delete your personal data, and to object to processing. The app gives you deletion directly; for anything else, write to support@essentra.app. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Legal bases (EEA/UK)
We process account and diary data to perform our contract with you (running the app). We process Health data on the basis of your explicit consent, given through the system permission prompt and revocable at any time. We process analytics and diagnostics on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and knowing which parts of it are used.
Children
Essentra is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live) and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Not medical advice
Essentra's targets are calculated estimates derived from your own inputs and published reference data (USDA FoodData Central; NIH Office of Dietary Supplements reference intakes). They are not medical or nutrition advice, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for a qualified professional.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we will update this policy and its date, and the in-app privacy manifest with it.
